My love for the sound of guitar playing started when I was 16 and I happened to listen to “Sultans of Swing” from Dire Straits on a CD. It was like the guitar was talking to me with its magic sound by Mark Knopfler.
Following that, I discovered a love of country music through the Master Guitar Player, Chet Atkins, and the “Boom Chicka Boom” sound of Johnny Cash’s guitar. Soon after that, I got inspired to also learn how to play Blues on my own, on an old acoustic guitar that I borrowed from my uncle.
I would learn the Blues more and more by listening to B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Steve Ray Vaughan, and Chuck Berry and playing little by little on a secondhand electric guitar I bought myself. I never took any guitar lessons, but all that I know, I learned by self-study, and I can proudly say that I finally started playing in a band at the age of 45. Never too late for your dreams to come true.
I do encourage any children to learn an instrument, so you will be ready….when you’ll fall in love.
